In response to continuing global financial turmoil, the UN Conference for Trade and Development has produced a set of principles to govern future sovereign financing. This book expands on these principles from a legal and economic perspective to analyse how sovereign financing can be regulated to prevent similar debt crises from occurring again.
China's Accession to World Trade Organization
This paper uses a newly constructed dataset on machinery imports from both developed and developing countries, and employs a cross-country growth-accounting framework to analye the impact of machinery imports, in association with human capital stocks, on economic growth. The findings suggest that machinery imports by developing countries have been higher over the past few years than during the 1970s and 1980s and that such imports from technologically more advanced developing countries have gained considerably in importance. The figures derived from the database support the earlier findings in the literature which suggest that the main roled of human capital in economic growth is to facilitate the adoption of technology from abroad, rather than to act as an independent factor of production.

Affective Geographies and Narratives of Chinese Diaspora
In various ways, Chinese diasporic communities seek to connect and re-connect with their “homelands” in literature, film, and visual culture. The essays in Affective Geographies and Narratives of Chinese Diaspora examine how diasporic bodies and emotions interact with space and place, as well as how theories of affect change our thinking of diaspora. Questions of borders and border-crossing, not to mention the public and private spheres, in diaspora literature and film raise further questions about mapping and spatial representation and the affective and geographical significance of the push-and-pull movement in diasporic communities.
