Metabolic syndrome is a dangerous combination of cardiovascular risk factors that correlate with each other and can increase cardio and cerebrovascular events. The incidence of metabolic syndrome often parallels that of obesity and type 2 diabetes. It is widespread; in the United States, more than 40% of people over the age of 50 have metabolic syndrome.
