Incitement

The definitive account of the career and legacy of the most influential Western exponent of violent jihad. Anwar al-Awlaki was, according to one of his followers, “the main man who translated jihad into English.” By the time he was killed by an American drone strike in 2011, he had become a spiritual leader for thousands of extremists, especially in the United States and Britain, where he aimed to make violent Islamism “as American as apple pie and as British as afternoon tea.” Alexander Meleagrou-Hitchens draws on extensive research among al-Awlaki’s former colleagues, friends, and followers, including interviews with convicted terrorists, to explain how he established his network...

Prophets in the Qur’ān and the Bible

The theme of prophets and prophecy is a central area of theological research and discussion in both Christianity and Islam. While academic researches on the prophets of Islamic tradition do exist, it is rare to find studies which compare them with the biblical accounts based on evangelical theology. This book provides theological analysis of the biblical prophets which appear in the Qur'an and the Islamic literature. The selection of prophets includes Adam, Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Ezekiel (Dhul-Kifl), Zakariya, Yahya (John, the Baptist), and Mary the Mother of Jesus. The contributors are a distinguished group of international scholars who combine impressive academic credentials with extensive ministry among Muslims. Moreover, the international nature of the contributors lends credibility to the work as an exercise in global theology. This book lays a good foundation for the comparison of scriptural and theological traditions of two world major religions and for generating further discussions.

A Final Story

Popular science readers embrace epics—the sweeping stories that claim to tell the history of all the universe, from the cosmological to the biological to the social. And the appeal is understandable: in writing these works, authors such as E. O. Wilson or Steven Weinberg deliberately seek to move beyond particular disciplines, to create a compelling story weaving together natural historical events, scientific endeavor, human discovery, and contemporary existential concerns. In AFinal Story, Nasser Zakariya delves into the origins and ambitions of these scientific epics, from the nineteenth century to the present, to see what they reveal about the relationship between storytelling, integrat...

Aflatoxins in Food

Mycotoxins are the metabolites of fungus and are reported to contaminate nearly 25% of the food produced worldwide. The mycotoxins of most significance are the aflatoxins due to their severe health implications and their prevalence in food commodities on a larger scale. Aflatoxins are produced by certain species of fungi the most prominent among which are Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nominous. Food commodities of African and South Asian countries are especially reported to have aflatoxins well beyond the allowable limits but due to the global trade of food commodities developed countries are also prone towards the perils of aflatoxins. Moreover, climate changes may have a substa...

Crocodile Seeking Refuge

This play tells the stories of five individuals seeking asylum in the UK: Zakariya from Darfur; Destin from the Republic of Congo; Jalal from Iraq; Parvaneh from Iran and Marie-Elena from Colombia. Each has been forced to flee their homeland in the face of death, each is haunted in a different way by the past. Finding themselves in situations that veer between the comic and the tragic, they try to make sense of the British way of life. “Scars are like medals. They show we have taken part in the life.” Inspired by the real life testimony of people who have sought refuge in the UK, ‘Crocodile Seeking Refuge’ is an incisive look at the asylum stories behind the headlines.

Mustafa reminds me of the tale of the two neighboring oysters, the one where one of them complained to the other his pain and suffering, to which he replied “As for me, I am blessed with good health”. Little did they know that a crab had overheard their conversation and said to the second oyster, “That pain and suffering that your neighbor enduring, is because of the formation process of a beautiful pearl.” And this reminds me of Mustafa because out of his suffering, he completed and published this book which will benefit a world of people, like that beautiful pearl that would leave people in awe. I ask Allah SWA to bless him with the best of luck and success. H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi Writer, Poet and Former Director General of Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi-UAE
