Movements. Journal for Critical Migration and Border Regime Studies Vol. 3, Issue 2/2017
The journal movements collects academic, activist and artistic output that deals with migration and border regimes. It fosters exchange between academic discourse and the movements of migration, and thus allows for political debate about our societies in motion. This issue takes as its theme the current developments of the Turkish migration and border regime in the wake of the EUropean migration policies in recent years. The contributors focus, on the one hand, on the so called EU-Turkey Deal and its implications on politics and society in Turkey and its neighborhood and, on the other hand, on the politics of migration and the living conditions of asylum seekers and migrants in Turkey. movements is published in print with transcript and online (open access) at www.movements-journal.org.

Courting Migrants
Long-distance engagement by migrants in the politics of their homelands is not a new phenomenon, but, as this book argues, politicians are increasingly looking beyond their national boundaries for electoral and political support. While migrants rarely cast decisive votes in homeland elections, they are not marginal to homeland politics. Mainstreaming versus Alienation
This book explores the role of complexity in the governance of migration and diversity. Current policy processes often fail to adequately capture complexity, favouring ‘quick fix’ approaches to regulation and integration that result in various forms of alienation: problem alienation, institutional alienation, political alienation and social alienation. Scholten draws on literature from gender and environmental governance to develop ‘mainstreaming’, an approach that reframes migration as a contingent and emergent process made up of complex actor networks, rather than a one-size-fits-all policy model. By ensuring actors understand and respond to complexity, migration research can contribute to reflexivity in policy processes, help to promote mainstreaming, and prevent alienation. The result will be of interest to students and scholars of migration and governance studies, with a focus on policymaking and integration.
