Adults and children alike will love this heartwarming tale of self-worth and self-confidence that is both educational and fun to read. Children will laugh along with the comical camel as he compares himself to other animals, only to learn there's no one he'd rather be.
The Red Toothed Camel was born at sea aboard the State Ship Deliverance, weathering a hurricane. He's a young prince—all boy—who grows into a fine man, in spite of himself and the consequences of his yearly misadventures, which he luckily survives, at least for our behalf. His eventual purpose, you'll see, is to be the catalyst for a social commentary, which Helmet, our author, weaves for your sake and the sake of the Camel's own children. There is a slight blurring between fiction and allegory and humor and satire, but its not meant to confuse; its offered to help you take off your blinders, if you will. The brief narrative herein covers a long, long life, which is but an exaggeration to help the reader find more than the immediate.

Hundreds of stories are told in Turkey and neighboring lands about Nassreddin Hodja (pronounced Noss-red-DEEN HO-ja). Hodja is a word meaning teacher. The Hodja sometimes behaved cleverly and sometimes acted like a bumbling fool. Observing him, his neighbors scratched their heads in amazement'but also in confusion. They admired his cleverness and made fun of his absurdities. However, as we shall see, sometimes Nassreddin Hodja enjoyed the last laugh. All the stories in this collection include a special figure in the Hodja's life: his donkey.
