Flavonoids

Kinetics of Enzymatic Synthesis
Kinetics of Enzymatic Synthesis gives insight into different aspects of chemical reactions that are catalyzed by enzymes. This book is divided into two sections: "Enzyme Kinetics" and "Enzymatic Synthesis". The first section consists of two chapters with a halophilic enzyme kinetics and thermodynamic approach towards analyzing the influence of co-solvents on the Michaelis constants of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. The second section consists of three chapters. Production of isoamyl acetate using the enzymatic synthesis method between acetic anhydride and isoamyl alcohol by having enzyme Candida antarctica Lipase B as catalyst in a solvent-free system is discussed in the third chapter. The integrated scheme with the use of the filtrate from the pretreatment of the CS and the growth conditions of Pleurotus cystidiosus is studied in the fourth chapter. The last chapter of this section provides the conditions of the key parameters in microfluidic systems (residence times, flow rates, concentrations) applied for a sequential process from liquid/liquid extraction of LVV-h7.

This book explores, through a multidisciplinary approach, the immense influence exerted by Bernard Shaw on the Spanish-speaking world on both sides of the Atlantic. This collection of essays encompasses the reception and dissemination of his ideas; the translation of his works into Spanish; the performance history of his plays in Spain and Latin America; and Shaw’s influence on many key figures of literature in Spanish. It begins by delving into Shaw’s knowledge of Spanish literature and gauging his acquaintance with the Spanish cultural milieu throughout his tenure as an art, music, and theatre critic. His early exposure to Spanish-speaking culture later made the return trip in the form of profuse critical reception and theatrical success in countries like Spain, Argentina, Mexico, and Uruguay. This allows for a more detailed investigation into the unmistakable mark that Bernard Shaw left in the oeuvre of leading Spanish-speaking authors like Ramiro de Maeztu, Jorge Luis Borges or Nemesio Canales. Flavonoids
Flavonoids are abundant secondary metabolites found in plants and fungi that have various roles in these organisms, including pigmentation, cell signalling, plant defence and inter-organism communication. Due to their abundance in nature, flavonoids are also important components of the human diet, and the last four decades have seen an intense study focused on the structure characterization of flavonoids and on their roles in mammal metabolism. This book reviews most of the well-established activities of flavonoids, and we also present more recent research studies on the area of flavonoids, including the chemical aspects of structure characterization of flavonoids, the biosynthesis of flavonoids in model plants as well as their role in abiotic stress situations and in agriculture, the role of flavonoids in metabolism and health and their importance in foods, from consumption to their use as bioactive components.

Marvels and Miracles in Late Colonial Mexico
Miracles, signs of divine presence and intervention, have been esteemed by Christians, especially Catholic Christians, as central to religious belief. During the second half of the eighteenth century, Spain's Bourbon dynasty sought to tighten its control over New World colonies, reform imperial institutions, and change the role of the church and religion in colonial life. As a result, miracles were recognized and publicized sparingly by the church hierarchy, and colonial courts were increasingly reluctant to recognize the events. Despite this lack of official encouragement, stories of amazing healings, rescues, and acts of divine retribution abounded throughout Mexico. Consisting of three rare documents about miracles from this period, each accompanied by an introductory essay, this study serves as a source book and complement to the author's Shrines and Miraculous Images: Religious Life in Mexico Before the Reforma.
