The Feeling of Forgetting

The Feeling of Forgetting

"The dual traumas of colonialism and slavery are still felt by Native Americans and African Americans as victims of ongoing cycles of white violence toward people of color. In The Feeling of Forgetting, John Corrigan trains our attention on an underexamined aspect of this historical trauma: the trauma experienced by white Americans as perpetrators of this violence. By tracing the practices of remembering and forgetting in the Christian tradition, Corrigan shows how experiences of racial violence and efforts, on the part of white Americans, to deliberately forget race are drivers of Christian nationalism and white supremacy. White trauma, Corrigan says, is detectable as an underground river in American culture. Sometimes it is powerfully joined with evangelical Christianity and surfaces at times in acts of brutality, terrorism, and insurrection. The Feeling of Forgetting is an attempt to understand how that process occurs, and how it is braided with the trauma of victims, so that we might be better positioned to address both"--

"Latent Growth Curve Modeling introduces students to a strategy for modeling change over time. This volume offers a unique chance to study this useful research method with easy-to-follow examples of common growth modeling approaches. It addresses ways to fit a variety of advanced statistical models to repeated-measures data, to model change over time, and to assess individual differences in change." "This graduate-level volume is a resource for individual researchers or courses covering longitudinal data analysis, structural equation modeling, developmental methodology, and multivariate techniques."--BOOK JACKET.

Social Cognition, Motivation, and Interaction: How Do People Respond to Threats in Social Interactions?

If we want to understand people’s responses to threats in social interactions we can distinguish between three levels of analysis: On a social level of analysis we can describe people’s interpersonal behavior, on a cognitive level we can identify corresponding information processing mechanisms, and on a neural level we can specify neural systems, which underlie these processes. In this Research Topic we want to present research connecting these three levels of analysis and propose their functional interconnection in social interaction. We propose that threats in social interactions activate basic motivational processes, which manifest in neural processes related to behavioral inhibition ...

Handbook of Personal Security

The issue of psychological security within an increasingly unstable, interconnected world has become a defining challenge of modern individual and cultural life. The terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and the global financial crisis that unfolded in 2008 have intensified a sense of global and personal insecurity. This concern with psychological insecurity is reflected in contemporary culture, politics, the business world, consumer behavior, the arts, and other areas. Within this context, the psychological sciences have kept pace, vigorously investigating these issues. This handbook features the latest theory and research examining cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to security ...

Rebecca M. Warner's Applied Statistics: From Bivariate Through Multivariate Techniques, Second Edition provides a clear introduction to widely used topics in bivariate and multivariate statistics, including multiple regression, discriminant analysis, MANOVA, factor analysis, and binary logistic regression. The approach is applied and does not require formal mathematics; equations are accompanied by verbal explanations. Students are asked to think about the meaning of equations. Each chapter presents a complete empirical research example to illustrate the application of a specific method. Although SPSS examples are used throughout the book, the conceptual material will be helpful for users of different programs. Each chapter has a glossary and comprehension questions.

Julia Weindel provides novel implications for researchers and managers by first identifying the sector-specific main levers of retail brand equity. Second, she shows that retail brand equity and perceived value have a reciprocal relationship. The author analyzes which one of these has stronger effects on loyalty. Third, she addresses the interdependencies between brand beliefs, retail brand equity, and loyalty within multichannel retail structures. The study is forced through the knowledge that management of retail brands is highly valuable for scholars and managers, because retail brand equity is known to strongly influence consumer behavior in various contexts. The retail brand represents a valuable asset for retailers which need to know the levers of retail brand equity.
