Contact Lens Wear-Acanthamoeba Keratitis
Fifty-eight year-old Caucasian female contact lens wearer presents to clinic as an emergancy visit with pain and photophobia after wearing her contact lenses. Patient was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer at time of visit. In this specific case, an Acanthamoeba etiology was ruled out as a corneal complication. Patient was non-responsive to standard treatment modalities and therefore managed for three months after the initial visit. Corneal ulcers related to contact lens wear is a common occurrence among the population. This case study evaluates treatment and management options for contact lens wearing patients with the diagnosis of acanthamoeba keratitis.
