Adam Cullen

Adam Cullen, subject of the latest volume in the Macmillan Mini-Art Series, emerged in the 1990s as the enfant terrible of the Sydney art-scene and a foremost exponent of grunge. Despite descriptions of his work as crude, distasteful and grotesque, and his predilection for low-life subject matter, his paintings have been selected for many public collections and in 2000 he won the coveted Archibald Prize with his portrait of actor, David Wenham. The addition of this book to Macmillans on-going series of Mini-Art books provides collectors with another approach to the art of today one which is not flattering, but is acutely aware of contemporary issues and is not afraid to present these raw realities through the art of painting.

Adam Cullen wasted little time making an impact on the Australian art world. Here in a book as part of a new art series from Craftsman House, we look at the evolution of a new "grunge" Australian artist.
