Studio Cats

Puccini is a mischievous, six-month-old Tabby kitten who lives on the lot of a major movie studio. On one of his outings, Puccini meets ten-year-old Kelly Parker. They bond instantly. Kelly wants to take Puccini home, and he desperately wants to go, but it's against the rules for a studio cat to leave the lot. The only way Puccini can earn the right to live with Kelly, is by performing a selfless deed. In the doing, Puccini unearths a dastardly plot to exterminate the studio cats. Puccini is granted permission to leave, but because the cats refuse to believe they're in danger, Puccini must put his own dreams of having a real home in second place and figure out a way to save his fellow Studio Cats.

Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square

Peter Marshall was the host for 17 years of the phenomenally successful celebrity game show, The Hollywood Squares. This is the inside story from why Peter took the job (he did not want Dan Rowan to get it) to the inner workings of the show (how did Paul Lynde come up with all those jokes?). From stories about regulars Wally Cox, Rose Marie, Cliff Arquette as Charley Weaver, Nannette Fabray, and Abby Dalton to stories about the guests - Betty Grable, Helen Hayes, George C. Scott, Richard Burton, and everybody else who was anybody in Hollywood. Hollywood Squares debuted in 1966 and became, along with The Tonight Show, one of the two shows to be on if you wanted to plug a new movie, show, or book. There are stories of friendships and romances that grew on the show, stories of what happened when the show taped in Puerto Vallarta, Vancouver, and Jamaica. There are stories of The Hollywood Squares' funniest moments and bloopers, including those that never got by the censors. The book includes a CD of a long-out-of-print album, Zingers from The Hollywood Squares. Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square is an insider's view of one of the most remarkable television shows of all time.

The Classical Three-Section Staff

The San Jie Gun, or three-section staff, is a traditional Chinese weapon consisting of three short wooden or metal rods linked by chain. Versatile and difficult, it can be flexible or rigid, long or short, and an instrument of finesse or brutality. To wield it requires athletic prowess, courage, and tenacity, marking the person who masters it as one of substance and fierce individuality. While the three-section staff has been the weapon of choice for many advanced martial artists, instructions on its use have largely remained hidden. In The Classical Three-Section Staff, expert Rick Wing brings this ancient weapon into the light. Wing breaks down the complex wheeling maneuvers associated wit...

The Dynamics of Japan's Relations with Africa

This is the first book to examine in-depth Japan's relations with Africa. Japan's dependence on raw materials from South Africa made it impossible for Tokyo in the 1970s and 1980s to support other African states in their fight against the minority government and its policy of apartheid. Kweku Ampiah's detailed analysis of Japan's political, economic and diplomatic relations with sub-Saharan Africa from 1974 to the early 1990s makes it clear that Japan was lukewarm in the struggle against apartheid. Case studies of Tanzania and Nigeria dissect Japan's trade, aid and investment policies in sub-Saharan Africa more widely.
