La Astrobiología escapa a una definición precisa. Los especialistas en la materia no han sido capaces de definir convenientemente lo que es la vida. Por eso existen multitud de preguntas sin respuesta categórica: ¿está vivo un virus?, ¿cuál es el tamaño mínimo de un ser vivo? ¿es el carbono la única solución estructural de la vida?, ¿no podría existir vida basada en el silicio?, ¿es imprescindible el agua para la vida?, ¿qué huellas debemos seguir para identifi car vida en otros cuerpos planetarios?, ¿la vida se originó en nuestro planeta o vino de otro lugar?, ¿es la vida una propiedad consustancial del Universo? Precisamente esa es la esencia de la Astrobiología, intentar buscar respuesta a estas preguntas básicas, esenciales..., y ahí reside la belleza de la Astrobiología, que para intentar dar respuesta a alguna de estas preguntas, para avanzar en la esencia de lo que es la vida, se requiere una colaboración efectiva entre especialistas de muy diversos campos. Particular emphasis is given to the understanding of Mars as a cold planet throughout its entire geological evolution, starting as a wet world where liquid water was abundant on the surface, albeit the low temperatures, and its sequential transition into a dry planet as temperatures turned even colder.

Alternative Approaches to Human Rights
This book explores the comparative historical evolution of the European, Inter-American and African regional human rights systems. The book devotes attention to various factors that have shaped the systems: the different circumstances in which they were founded; the influence of major states and inter-state politics within their respective regions; gradual processes of institutional evolution; and the impact of human rights advocates and claimants. Throughout, the book devotes careful attention to the impact of institutional and procedural choices on the functioning of human rights systems. Overarchingly, the book explores the contextually-generated differences between the three systems, suggesting that human rights practice is less unitary than it might at times appear. Prescriptively, the book proposes that, contrary to the received wisdom in some quarters, the Inter-American system's dual-track approach may provide the most promising model in regards to future human rights system design.
Neuropsychology and Neuropsychiatry of Neurodegenerative Disorders
This book compiles all articles within the Research Topic "Neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry of neurodegenerative disorders" published in the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. The call was launched in 2014 and closed in 2015 with 21 articles published. Papers deal on several important topics of neuropsychology -such as language and visuospatial functions- and neuropsychiatry - such us the emotional or motivational spheres - , and the interphase between them. There are also articles on psychometry, brain morphometry, brain connectivity, diagnostic tests and interventional studies. All these articles are focused on neurodegenerative conditions, mostly Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Interestingly, several articles addressed the early stages of these diseases. All together, this Research Topic provides a rich perspective of the research made today around neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric aspects of neurodegenerative diseases. We hope readers enjoy this collection of articles.
