Alejandro Cesarco
Alejandro Cesarco: Song, published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the Renaissance Society, brings together both new commissions and existing works. In the exhibition, Cesarco creates rhythm by incorporating silences and withholdings. The works form an installation drawing on the poetics of duration, refusal, repetition, and affective forms. This presentation, as in the artist's broader practice, represents a sustained investigation into time, memory, and how meaning is perceived. Centering on two related video works, the exhibition engaged deeply with histories of conceptual art. This catalog features an introduction by Solveig Øvstebø, a conversation between Alejandro Cesarco and Lynne Tillman, an essay by Julie Ault, and new short fiction by Wayne Koestenbaum in response to the exhibition.

"John Baldessari and Alejandro Cesarco have collaborated on a suite of 12 silkscreens on aluminum presently on view at Murray Guy on 17th Street. The simple visual presence of the panels disguises the rich conceptual alchemy charging the gallery. The setup is the same for each: floating inside the borders of the panel is a xeroxed image of an open book, framed so that one page of the spread is centered; the contents of that page have been removed, and in their place is a large rectangle of flat color; inside the rectangle, a white circle or two, each with a black number inside; below the rectangle, "on the page" of the xeroxed book as it were, similarly numbered lines of text; and below this...

Crocodile Cradle' is an exhibition by Simon Moretti developed on three platforms: a filmed performance online; a text collage on the glass facade of PEER gallery, London; and a book. For this collaborative project, artist Simon Moretti invited fifty-one artists to supply a text that they had written or found, to be considered as part of a collaborative artwork to represent their thoughts in the current charged moment in history.
