Comparative Perspectives on the Rise of the Brazilian Novel presents a framework of comparative literature based on a systemic and empirical approach to the study of the novel and applies that framework to the analysis of key nineteenth-century Brazilian novels. The works under examination were published during the period in which the forms and procedures of the novel were acclimatized as the genre established and consolidated itself in Brazil.
The popularity of an increasing number of mobile devices, such as PDAs, laptops, smart phones, and tablet computers, has made the mobile device the central method of communication in many societies. These devices may be used as electronic wallets, social networking tools, or may serve as a person’s main access point to the World Wide Web. The Handbook of Research on Mobile Software Engineering: Design, Implementation, and Emergent Applications highlights state-of-the-art research concerning the key issues surrounding current and future challenges associated with the software engineering of mobile systems and related emergent applications. This handbook addresses gaps in the literature within the area of software engineering and the mobile computing world.
Accurately diagnosing the myriad of diseases that can affect the mouth, guiding patients correctly, and offering treatment with competence is a permanent challenge for dental surgeons and health professionals. Often, the diagnosis of these diseases is neglected or wrongly performed. This concise book guides health professionals in clinical decision making in oral diseases, assisting them not only on the diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial diseases, but also in terms of value and benefit of who treats the condition and, above all, who will be treated. The work provides guidelines formulated by a compilation of specific protocols of conduct, focusing on the scientific evidence an...
While scholars, activists and pundits from around the world have heralded the Lula years as a breakthrough for poverty reduction and the forthcoming emergence of Brazil as a dynamic economic superpower, many of their counterparts in the country as well as a number of Brazilianists elsewhere, have expressed great disappointment. Tracing back the trajectory of Brazilian Workers’ Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores - PT), Hernán F. Gómez Bruera explores how holding national executive public office contributed decisively to a pragmatic shift away from the party’s radical redistributive and participatory platform, earning the approbation of international audiences and criticisms of domestic pr...

We are all aware that artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a change in our lives, driven by a new form of interaction between man and machine. We are in the era of the fourth Industrial Revolution (IR) where AI plays vital roles in human development by enabling extraordinary technological advances making fundamental changes to the way we live, work and relate to one another. It is an opportunity to help everyone, including leaders, policymakers and people from all income groups and nations, to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-centered future. We need to prepare our graduates as well as researchers to conduct their research with 4.0 IR-related technol...
The book Online Virality, edited by Valérie Schafer and Fred Pailler (C2DH, University of Luxembourg), aims to provide a comprehensive examination of online virality. It explores the many ways we can think about this modern phenomenon and analyse the circulation, reception, and evolution of viral born-digital content. Virality and content sharing always intertwine material, infrastructural, visual and discursive elements. This involves various platforms, stakeholders, intermediaries, social groups and communities that are constantly (re)defining themselves. Regulation, curation and content moderation politics, as well as affects and emotions (fears, humour, empathy, hatred...), are also at ...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Software Reuse, ICSR 2009, held in Falls Church, VA, USA, in September 2009. The 28 full papers were caryfully selected from numerous submissions. 2009 was the year that ICSR went back to its roots. The theme was Formal Foundations of Reuse and Domain Engineering. The theory and formal foundations that underlie current reuse and domain engineering practice were explored and current advancements to get an idea of where the field of reuse was headed, were looked at. Many of the papers in these proceedings reflect that theme, e.g. component reuse and verification, feature modeling, generators and model-driven development, industry experience, product lines, reuse and patterns, service-oriented environments.
This book includes all 14 articles contributed to the Special Issue "Systematics and Conservation of Neotropical Amphibians and Reptiles” in the journal Diversity, originally published in 2019 and 2020.
