Leonardo da Vinci and Verrazzano’s Royal Discovery of New York (1524-2024)
In the archive of Verrazzano Castle in Greve in Chianti, Professor Stefaan Missinne, discoverer of the da Vinci Globe dating from 1504, stumbled upon the 500-year-old travel report by the Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano. This led to Windsor Castle, where the only world map dating from c. 1515 portraying an open seaway between Florida, as an island, and Newfoundland, was found among the papers of Leonardo da Vinci. Verrazzano did meet with Magellan in Seville in 1517 prior to his historical departure, but did Leonardo, while living in France between 1516 and 1519, influence his young royal employer and his Tuscan compatriot in any way? Astonishingly, the families of Verrazzano and da Vinci had been neighbors in Florence. In this reassessment of Verrazzano´s travel report, the author offers new evidence on Leonardo and Verrazzano. The Codex Cèllere, at the Pierpont Morgan Library, now takes its rightful place as New York´s literary birth certificate.

Il presente libro racconta, attraverso testimonianze fotografi che e docu mentarie, i 20 anni in cui il DANIEL FERRO VOCAL PROGRAM ha fatto di Greve in Chianti la sua « casa » musicale attraverso l'appoggio ed il patrocinio delle Amministrazioni che si sono succedute nel tempo con i sindaci Paolo Saturnini, Marco Hagge, Alberto Bencistà e Paolo Sottani. In questo periodo, Daniel Ferro, newyorkese, cantante e docente di canto, che durante la sua formazione professionale ha avuto il privilegio di studiare per molti anni in Italia, ha portato l'arte lirica a Greve in Chianti, dando poi modo ad altri di poter arrivare in questo territorio, ricco di storia e di cultura, e offrire la propria arte a un pubblico già preparato e a turisti affezionati e attenti. Queste pagine testimoniano un'attività artistica che è riuscita a varcare il diffcile traguardo dei 20 anni e non sempre mietendo facili successi. È la storia di tante estati passati a Greve in Chianti, di amicizie consolidate, di meravigliose ville e castelli, di giardini e chiese incantate, di amori rubati, di matrimoni e fi gli, cene e risate, albe e tramonti, ma soprattutto è la storia di tanta, tanta musica.
