Research Methodology: From Philosophy of Science to Research Design distinguishes itself from many other works devoted to research methodology and the philosophy of science in its integrated approach towards scientific research, which is regarded as the scientific project on all levels–from philosophy of science to research design. This work studies the basics of the methodology of scientific research and the organization of scientific activity from the viewpoint of systems science and system analysis. The book discusses the basics of the methodology including philosophical, psychological, epistemological and ethical/aesthetical foundations, the characteristics of scientific activity, incl...

This book synthesizes the game-theoretic modeling of decision-making processes and an ancient moral requirement called the Golden Rule of ethics (GR). This rule states "Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you." The GR is one of the oldest, most widespread, and specific moral requirements that appear in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. This book constructs and justifies mathematical models of dynamic socio-economic processes and phenomena that reveal the mechanism of the GR and are based on the concept of Berge equilibrium. The GR can be naturally used for resolving or balancing conflicts, and its "altruistic character" obviously excludes wars, blood-...

Development of an Algorithm for the Taktline Layout of Synchronized Job Shop Production

In job shop production the change towards synchronized job shop production, which is based on the concept of so-called taktlines, has been shown to enhance efficiency. In this dissertation an algorithm for the taktline layout is developed, following a multi-objective approach. The algorithm consists of two sequential discrete optimizations problems, namely a modified Substring Cover Problem and a partitioning Cluster Analysis, including a Multiple Sequence Alignment. For an overall validation, real-world data from tool manufacturers are subject to the proposed algorithm.
