To understand modern science as a coherent story, it is essential to recognize the accomplishments of the ancient Hindus. They invented our base-ten number system and zero that are now used globally, carefully mapped the sky and assigned motion to the Earth in their astronomy, developed a sophisticated system of medicine with its mind-body approach known as Ayurveda, mastered metallurgical methods of extraction and purification of metals, including the so-called Damascus blade and the Iron Pillar of New Delhi, and developed the science of self-improvement that is popularly known as yoga. Their scientific contributions made impact on noted scholars globally: Aristotle, Megasthenes, and Apollo...
Weather and climate is a natural resource which is considered as a basic input in agricultural planning. It affects all the agricultural activities directly or indirectly. Agrometeorology is primarily concerned with the interactions among meteorological, hydrological and pedological factors that influence production systems in agriculture and allied sectors like horticulture, animal husbandry, fishery, forestry, etc. Thus the role of an agrometeorologist is to define all these interactions, to correlate physical environments with biological responses and apply the relevant meteorological skills to help farmers for exploiting weather conditions and improve agricultural production both in quality and quantity. In this backdrop, agrometeorology has been recommended as a core subject in the curriculum of B. Sc. (Agriculture), B. Sc. (Horticulture) and B. Sc. (Forestry) courses of the agricultural universities. Keeping this in view, this textbook has been written for the undergraduate students.

This series of conferences, occurring regularly since 1996, is becoming recognised as the leading forum for open discussion on the behaviour of non-metallic materials when used in upstream oilfield service. Offshore oil & gas production is frequently associated with harsh operating environments. Equipment, systems and components used must survive these rigours whilst continuing to operate efficiently for long periods. The event provided an excellent overview of the current state and future potential for polymers in the oilfield environment. Session 1: Rapid Gas (Explosive) Decompression: Mechanisms And Laboratory Versus Field; Session 2: Laminated Polymer/Metal Structures: Development And Design Session 3: Risers And Pipelines Thermoplastics: Testing And Qualification; Session 4: Pipelines: Repair Guidelines And Insulation; Session 5: High Pressure Gas Permeation Through Oilfield Polymers Session 6: Advanced Composites: Durability In Water And Service In Downhole Environments; Session 7: Thermoplastics For High Pressure And Other Oilfield Service; Session 8: Fluorinated Elastomers For Severe Oilfield Service; Session 9: Thermal Insulation
This book provides a comprehensive research on Ancient Indian glass. The contributors include experienced archaeologists of South Asian glass and archaeological chemists with expertise in the chemical analysis of glass, besides, established ethnohistorians and ethnoarchaeologists. It is comprised of five sections, and each section discusses different aspects of glass study: the origin of glass and its evolution, its scientific study and its care, ancient glass in literature and glass ethnography, glass in South Asia and the diffusion of glass in different parts of the world. The topic covered by the different chapters ranges from the development of faience, to the techniques developed for th...
The importance of forest is now being realized in the backdrop of climate change, loss of biodiversity, and ecological and environmental imbalance. Thus, throughout the world, forestry is gaining importance as a subject of general interest and many universities have recommended it as a core subject in their curricula. Keeping this in view, this textbook Introductory Forestry has been written for the undergraduate students of agriculture as per the latest ICAR syllabus. The book has been divided into eight chapters covering major aspects of forestry including definitions of basic terms related to forestry, forest classification, Indian forest policies, forest regeneration, tending operations, forest mensuration, agroforestry and cultivation practices of some multipurpose tree species.
Weather is a basic input for agriculture. It affects the agricultural planning in a big way starting from land preparation to harvesting, processing and transportation. Thus, climate and weather may be considered as the most critical factor determining the sustainability of agricultural systems. Agrometeorology is now recognised as a full-fledged discipline and recommended as a core subject in the curriculum of the agricultural universities. The book covers the syllabus of the course 'Introductory Agrometeorology and Climate Change' meant for undergraduate students of agriculture, horticulture and forestry.
