A proteção do meio ambiente se trata de matéria de suma importância na seara local, nacional e internacional, desde que se compreendeu ser um direito inerente a todo e qualquer ser humano, relacionando-se intimamente com o desenvolvimento sustentável, este que detém como temas indissociáveis o meio ambiente, a preocupação social e o crescimento econômico. O objetivo deste livro é a análise da dimensão da proteção ambiental como direito humano e a existência de uma verdadeira Avaliação Ambiental Estratégica (AAE) nos projetos delineados pela Iniciativa para a Integração da Infraestrutura Regional Sul-Americana (IIRSA), denominada de metodologia de Avaliação Ambiental com Enfoque Estratégico (EASE). Busca-se, assim, responder se a iniciativa em matéria de infraestrutura desenvolvida pela IIRSA atende ao direito fundamental ao desenvolvimento sustentável, na medida em que os empreendimentos realizados resguardam ou não o dever de proteção ambiental inerente a toda organização, pública e privada, alcançando até mesmo as condutas individuais.

Benchmarking Public Procurement 2016
Public procurement accounts for around one-fifth of global gross domestic product (GDP). Given its size the public procurement market can improve public sector performance, promote national competitiveness, drive domestic economic growth, and boost economic development. Launched at the request of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group, Benchmarking Public Procurement presents actionable indicators to help countries identify and monitor policies and regulations that impact how private sector companies do business with the government in 77 economies. The Benchmarking Public Procurement 2016 report is organized under two parts: the public procurement life cycle and the complaint and reporting mechanisms indicators. Data was gathered using standardized questionnaires distributed to expert contributors in each economy. The project builds on the Doing Business methodology and aims to promote evidence-based decision making by governments and shed light over areas where few empirical data have been presented so far.
The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability. Also, it is hoped that this book can be useful for those involved in the development of public policies aimed at the conservation of this important global biome.
Women and Capital Punishment in the United States
The history of the execution of women in the United States has largely been ignored and scholars have given scant attention to gender issues in capital punishment. This historical analysis examines the social, political and economic contexts in which the justice system has put women to death, revealing a pattern of patriarchal domination and female subordination. The book includes a discussion of condemned women granted executive clemency and judicial commutations, an inquiry into women falsely convicted in potentially capital cases and a profile of the current female death row population.
