Neste livro, ganham destaque as teias, redes, relações pessoais e articulações de agentes diplomáticos, moldadas em diferentes esferas que transpassam diretamente a política externa do Império Brasileiro. Além disso, o contexto de formação dos Estados ibero-americanos é pensado através de um enfoque que os articula e relaciona a política doméstica à esfera internacional. O livro se insere, portanto, na necessidade de aprofundamento dos estudos sobre as relações internacionais, a política externa e seus agentes no Brasil do Oitocentos.
