Buku ini memberikan contoh penerapan strategi kognitif khususnya dalam pemecahan masalah matematika melalui perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakan. Strategi kognitif atau pengaturan kegiatan kognitif merupakan suatu cara seseorang dalam menangani aktivitas kognitifnya sendiri, khususnya dalam belajar dan berpikir. Strategi kognitif (strategi belajar) ini merupakan salah satu tujuan pembelajaran yang seharusnya diajarkan dan dilatihkan kepada peserta didik. Hal ini bertujuan agar dapat membentuk peserta didik menjadi pebelajar yang mandiri (self regulated learner) yang mampu menghadapi masalah yang merupakan bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari kehidupan manusia terutama di abad 21 yang penuh dengan tantangan ini.
