The aim of the EMotion project is to combine both technological aspects and respect for the territory and its history. The main axis considered in this project is the Asmara-Massawa road. The challenges of a new mobility in this part of Eritrea could be met and overcome by preserving the pre-existing historic infrastructure: an extraordinary and vulnerable cultural heritage, consisting of a unique road and a railway, crossing natural and cultural landscapes and connecting archaeological, historical-artistic and architectural sites; the road itself is a summation of artefacts and monuments to be protected and enhanced. A multidisciplinary team, including archaeologists, architects, geologists and engineers has contributed to the research. The vision of the project represents an ideal and real bridge to enhance the transferring of goods, ideas, knowledge and values and promote the connection of people.

Theory and History of Conservation
The book aims to provide the ability to approach restoration of historic architecture in a methodical way starting from basic concepts in terminology. In the different chapters will be addressed the theoretical aspects of restoration: stylistic restoration, Anti-Restoration, Historic Restoration, Scientific/Philological Restoration (in the first volume), the Critical Restoration, the Critical-Conservative Restoration, the Pure Conservation, maintenance/repair and currents trends (in the second volume). The history of conservation will be studied in different historical periods, countries, in different conceptions and through its main protagonists. Re-Imagining Resilient Productive Landscapes
This book explores how lessons from past urban planning experiences can inform current debates on urban agriculture. Productive landscapes today have been posited as instruments for the positive transformation related to territorial fragility and abandonment, promoting social cohesion, food security and wider environmental and economic benefits. The book will re-map the way in which seeming landscape limitations and challenges can be turned into potential, innovation and a new lease of urban-rural life. It does so by drawing on significant past urban agricultural experiences in planning as vectors for new critical reflections relevant to re-igniting ideas for future envisioning of urban scenarios in which productive landscapes play fundamental transformative roles. The focus is on planning ideas and the roles of key individual planners, all of which have designed agricultural strategies for the city at some point in their careers. It intends to help us today reimagine urban-rural relationships, and the transformation of under or mis-used urban open spaces, peri-urban areas, fringe conditions and in-between spaces.
