Mesmo após as mudanças e conquistas femininas com o passar do tempo, a sociedade ainda espera que mulheres ao se tornarem adultas queiram o caminho de se casarem e consequentemente terem filhos. Mas quando algumas delas decidem não seguir essa direção, são criticadas por aqueles que acreditam que, principalmente a maternidade, é um sonho de todas. Eu escolho não ser mãe reúne narrativas de mulheres que decidiram pela não maternidade. Mulheres de diferentes fases e contextos que não desejam ter filhos relatam sobre a pressão, os julgamentos, os anseios para o futuro e os motivos que as fizeram escolher não serem mães e aqui se juntam por um único objetivo: o respeito a essa escolha. A obra pretende tirar a ideia de que mulheres que não querem ter filhos são infelizes, se sentem vazias ou que são imaturas demais para decidir seguir uma vida fora do padrão esperado pela sociedade, e que apesar dos desafios enfrentados, é possível ter uma vida completamente plena e feliz com essa decisão.
Solid Waste Management
Waste materials in the solid form tend to be bulky and difficult to handle and transport. Its management could happen through physical, thermal, chemical or biological processing stages, with the exact sequence of and their operational optima being decided by the waste composition. In recent years, energy crisis and increased waste production have been undoubtedly major issues of concern. As we mentioned in the previous volume of this book, defining waste is crucial in terms of identifying the most adequate approach to recycle or recover resources from the waste. Various chemical, biochemical, and biological approaches are being investigated widely by researchers for waste valorization. Volume 2 of this book brings together the leading researchers working on solid waste management using biological and biochemical approaches.
Ecology and Conservation of Mountaintop grasslands in Brazil
This book is a pioneer attempt to bring forward the first synthesis on the most diverse and threatened mountain top vegetation of South America, the rupestrian grasslands. It brings to light the state of the art information on this ecosystem geology, soil formation and distribution, environmental filters that lead to biodiversity, species interactions and their fine tuned adaptations to survive the harsh mountain environment. The human dimensions of the rupestrian grassland are also addressed, including the anthropogenic threats that may irreversibly impact biodiversity and ecosystem services. The book also highlights the ongoing studies on ecological restoration and first attempt to model the impacts of climate change on its speciose biota.
Inquisition, juifs et nouveaux-chrétiens au Brésil
Analyzes the situation of Conversos living in Pernambuco and Paraíba between 1630-1756, from the Dutch conquest of these territories to the day when the last person incarcerated for Judaizing was released from prison. Examines the activities of the Inquisition in Brazil, as well as of the informers who denounced Crypto-Jews. The latter received privileges or material advantages. Shows how the Inquisition found ways to provoke feelings of fear and/or responsibility amongst the population, which led them to denounce Judaizers. Discusses, also, the attitudes of the Conversos to their Jewish heritage; relates how hesitation and religious syncretism led to identity problems. At first, Christians, Jews, and Conversos lived together in harmony, but the establishment of the Inquisition changed the relations between these groups.

This is a compilation of contributions to the study of the Portuguese playwright Gil Vicente (1465–1536) which appeared between 2005 and 2015. Entries are grouped under three main headings: Editions and Adaptations, Translations, and Critical Studies. The scholarly interest in the father of the Portuguese theater continues unabated, as it can be seen in the great numbers of scholarly works, both editorial and critical, which appeared in the decade under question. The modest aim of this work is to alert scholars as to which of Gil Vicente’s works have not received adequate critical attention. New names are constantly added to the list of established vicentistas and new ways of looking at the dramatist’s works are introduced.
