Die kleine Katharina hat mit vier Jahren aufgehört zu wachsen. Sie quält sich Tag und Nacht mit unerträglichen Kopfschmerzen. Die Mitschüler hänseln sie, die Lehrer behaupten, sie simuliere. Die Mediziner versagen in ihrer Sorgfaltspflicht. Katharina wird behandelt, als sei sie psychisch krank und ihr auffälliger Fehlwuchs wird genetisch begründet. Angelika bezweifelt die Diagnose der Mediziner, stößt aber nur auf Beschwichtigungen und Ignoranz. Dennoch gibt sie nicht auf, nach der richtigen Diagnose zu suchen. Als nach Jahren die tatsächliche Ursache für Katharinas Leiden gefunden wird, schwebt sie bereits in Lebensgefahr. Sie hat einen Tumor im Kopf. Diese berührende Geschichte, authentisch, traurig und immer auch voller Hoffnung, weckt unser Mitgefühl und lehrt uns welche Folgen Ignoranz und Kleingeist nach sich ziehen können. Ein Mut machender Appell der inneren Stimme und Wahrheit zu folgen.

The introduction to the first part of this volume, "Flossenbürg - Stammlager" (pp. 17-66), by Jörg Skriebeleit, describes the construction and functioning of the camp at Flossenbürg. Pp. 67-288 describe its satellite camps, each entry by a different author. The introduction to the second part, "Mauthausen - Stammlager" (pp. 293-346), by Florian Freund and Bertrand Perz, traces the history of the camp at Mauthausen. Pp. 347-470 present its satellite camps. The introduction to the third part, "Ravensbrück - Stammlager" (pp. 473-520), by Annette Leo, discusses the camp for women in Ravensbrück. Pp. 521-607 describe its satellite camps. Throughout the book, Jews are mentioned sporadically.
