This book covers the International Conference on Engineering Research and Applications (ICERA 2021), which took place at Thai Nguyen University of Technology, Thai Nguyen, Vietnam on December 1–2, 2021, and provided an international forum to disseminate information on latest theories and practices in engineering research and applications. The conference focused on original research work in areas including mechanical engineering, materials and mechanics of materials, mechatronics and micromechatronics, automotive engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, information and communication technology. By disseminating the latest advances in the field, the Proceedings of ICERA 2021, Advances in Engineering Research and Application, helps academics and professionals alike to reshape their thinking on sustainable development.
The history of Vietnam prior to the nineteenth century is rarely examined in any detail. In this groundbreaking work, K. W. Taylor takes up this challenge, addressing a wide array of topics from the earliest times to the present day - including language, literature, religion, and warfare - and themes - including Sino-Vietnamese relations, the interactions of the peoples of different regions within the country, and the various forms of government adopted by the Vietnamese throughout their history. A History of the Vietnamese is based on primary source materials, combining a comprehensive narrative with an analysis which endeavours to see the Vietnamese past through the eyes of those who lived it. Taylor questions long-standing stereotypes and clichés about Vietnam, drawing attention to sharp discontinuities in the Vietnamese past. Fluently written and accessible to all readers, this highly original contribution to the study of Southeast Asia is a landmark text for all students and scholars of Vietnam.
These lecture notes present selected topics concerning a wide range of electrical and electronics applications, highlighting innovative approaches and offering state-of-the-art overviews. The book is divided into 14 topical areas, including e.g. telecommunication, power systems, robotics, control systems, renewable energy, mechanical engineering, computer science and more. Readers will find revealing papers on the design and implementation of control algorithms for automobiles and electrohydraulic systems, efficient protocols for vehicular ad hoc networks and motor control, and energy-saving methods that can be applied in various fields of electrical engineering. The book offers a valuable resource for all practitioners who want to apply the topics discussed to solve real-world problems in their challenging applications. Offering insights into common and related subjects in the research fields of modern electrical, electronic and related technologies, it will also benefit all scientists and engineers working in the above-mentioned fields.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Future Data and Security Engineering, FDSE 2021, held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in November 2021.* The 28 full papers and 8 short were carefully reviewed and selected from 168 submissions. The selected papers are organized into the following topical headings: big data analytics and distributed systems; security and privacy engineering; industry 4.0 and smart city: data analytics and security; blockchain and access control; data analytics and healthcare systems; and short papers: security and data engineering. * The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Global report on neglected tropical diseases 2023 provides a consolidated, up-to-date assessment of progress towards control, elimination and eradication of 20 diseases and disease groups (NTDs) globally, regionally and nationally. Progress is reported in the context of global commitments, strategies and targets set in the NTD road map 2021-2030. The document covers the first two years of implementation of the road map (2021 and 2022). The information presented is based primarily on epidemiological and programmatic data for interventions conducted in 2021 and gathered in 2022, but the report also describes a wide range of activities and accomplishments that were registered in both 2021 a...
In this book, highly qualified scientists present their recent research motivated by the importance of electric machines. It addresses advanced studies for high-speed electrical machine design, mechanical design of rotors with surface-mounted permanent magnets, design of motor drive for brushless DC motor, single-phase motors for household applications, battery electric propulsion systems for competition racing applications, robust diagnosis by observer using the bond graph approach, a DC motor simulator based on virtual instrumentation, start-up of a PID fuzzy logic embedded control system for the speed of a DC motor using LabVIEW, advanced control of the permanent magnet synchronous motor and optimization of fuzzy logic controllers by particle swarm optimization to increase the lifetime in power electronic stages.
The militarization of space began as a rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union and grew to enormous proportions during the height of the Cold War. Satellite reconnaissance, navigation and weapons guidance, and electronic intelligence comprise only a few of the efforts taken to militarize and dominate space. Today as the prominence of information technology, computing, and telecommunications advances, so does the concept of space as a battlefield. In The Militarization and Weaponization of Space, Matthew Mowthorpe diligently analyzes the military space policies of the United States, the Soviet Union/Russia, and the People's Republic of China from the Cold War period to the present day. Mowthorpe focuses on the development of the ballistic missile defense and other anti-satellite systems and aptly assesses to what degree space will become armed. This work cogently addresses an issue of increasing urgency to scholars of international politics.
Building Software for Simulation A unique guide to the design and implementation of simulation software This book offers a concise introduction to the art of building simulation software, collecting the most important concepts and algorithms in one place. Written for both individuals new to the field of modeling and simulation as well as experienced practitioners, this guide explains the design and implementation of simulation software used in the engineering of large systems while presenting the relevant mathematical elements, concept discussions, and code development. The book approaches the topic from the perspective of Zeigler’s theory of modeling and simulation, introducing the theory...
This book focuses on the interaction between different energy vectors, that is, between electrical, thermal, gas, and transportation systems, with the purpose of optimizing the planning and operation of future energy systems. More and more renewable energy is integrated into the electrical system, and to optimize its usage and ensure that its full production can be hosted and utilized, the power system has to be controlled in a more flexible manner. In order not to overload the electrical distribution grids, the new large loads have to be controlled using demand response, perchance through a hierarchical control set-up where some controls are dependent on price signals from the spot and balancing markets. In addition, by performing local real-time control and coordination based on local voltage or system frequency measurements, the grid hosting limits are not violated.
