Pilgrimage of Anastasius: The Autobiography of the First Provincial of the Discalced Carmelites

Jerome Gracián (1545–1614) was the first provincial of the Discalced Carmelite Order and a close collaborator of Saint Teresa of Ávila, the order's foundress. He brought stability and growth to St. Teresa's movement when it was still in its infancy, particularly among the friars. Tres hermanos fueron abandonados por su madre, producto del vicio del alcohol que tenía su esposo. El mayor se hizo cargo de sus hermanos menores, pues su padre se desaparecía, según ellos a beber por semanas. The Global Manager's Guide to Living and Working Abroad

Living and working abroad. Sounds glamorous—and maybe it is, if you're posted to Paris or Vienna. But what if your company sends you to Santiago, Lisbon, or Montevideo? Many questions arise: Is it safe to go out at night? Do quality schools exist? How polluted is the air? Is public transportation handy? What's the average monthly rent for a decent house? What inoculations should you get before you go? Can you find your favorite brand of toothpaste? The Global Manager's Guide to Living and Working Abroad: Western Europe and the Americas answers these and many other questions expats will have about the cities that companies send employees to most often in the Western Hemisphere.

This book, an international collaboration sponsored by the Commission on the History of Historiography, is devoted to historians of the 19th and 20th centuries. Offering dictionary entries for historians from more than 35 countries, the editors have sought to illustrate specific domains of history and focus on those scholars who were important to particular cultures and histories. Consultants from each area suggested historians for inclusion, thus providing a unique national perspective. The volume begins with an explanatory preface and a detailed introduction to the time period covered. The entries are then arranged by national or geographical areas, and alphabetized within each regional se...
