The Turba Philosophorum
The Turba Philosophorum, or Assembly of the Alchemical Philosophers, is attributed to Arisleus. It is one of the earliest Alchemical texts, believed to be from the 12th Century. The Turba Philosophorum was often quoted in later Alchemical texts. Also included in this volume: Revelation of the True Chemical Wisdom by Friederich Gualdus, which includes a Forward by Hans W. Nintzel. Contained therein, are letters between Gualdus and Baron von Reusenstein. The latter refers to Gualdus as an Adept. Dr. Sigismund Bacstrom held von Reusenstein in very high regard. We have here, also, Gualdus' recipe for longevity.

In September 2008, an international conference on the history of alchemy was held at El Escorial, close to the ancient location of the distilling houses operating under royal patronage during the second half of the 16th century. The present book consists of a selection of the papers presented then, shedding light on little-studied medieval and early modern texts, important alchemical doctrines such as medieval corpuscularianism, early modern spiritus mundi or the function of salt within chymical principles, and discussing such prominent figures as Paracelsus, Isaac Hollandus, Michael Sendivogius, Fontenelle or G. Alchemy, Paracelsianism, and Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale
This book explores the role of alchemy, Paracelsianism, and Hermetic philosophy in one of Shakespeare’s last plays, The Winter’s Tale. A perusal of the vast literary and iconographic repertory of Renaissance alchemy reveals that this late play is imbued with several topoi, myths, and emblematic symbols coming from coeval alchemical, Paracelsian, and Hermetic sources. It also discusses the alchemical significance of water and time in the play’s circular and regenerative pattern and the healing role of women. All the major symbols of alchemy are present in Shakespeare’s play: the intertwined serpents of the caduceus, the chemical wedding, the filius philosophorum, and the so-called rex chymicus. This book also provides an in-depth survey of late Renaissance alchemy, Paracelsian medicine, and Hermetic culture in the Elizabethan and Jacobean ages. Importantly, it contends that The Winter’s Tale, in symbolically retracing the healing pattern of the rota alchemica and in emphasising the Hermetic principles of unity and concord, glorifies King James’s conciliatory attitude.
Alchemical Poetry, 1575-1700
Of interest to interdisciplinary historians as well as those in various other fields, this book presents the first publication of 14 poems ranging from 12 to 3,000 lines. The poems are printed in the chronological order of their composition, from Elizabethan to Augustan times, but nine of them are verse translations of works from earlier periods in the development of alchemy.
