Following World War II many Native American communities were strongly encouraged to terminate their status as wards of the federal government and develop greater economic and political power for themselves. Arthur Watkins and Emily Adelia Gerber Watkins
Arthur Watkins was born 22 October 1864 in Provo, Utah. He was the son of John Watkins and Harriet Mollatt Steel. He married Emily Adelia Gerber 19 March 1886. She was the daughter of Johannes (John) Gerber and Anna Maria (Mary) Ackeret who were immigrants from Switzerland. Arthur and Emily lived in Utah and reared a family of five children.
