Research in Shape Analysis
Based on the second Women in Shape (WiSH) workshop held in Sirince, Turkey in June 2016, these proceedings offer the latest research on shape modeling and analysis and their applications. The 10 peer-reviewed articles in this volume cover a broad range of topics, including shape representation, shape complexity, and characterization in solving image-processing problems. While the first six chapters establish understanding in the theoretical topics, the remaining chapters discuss important applications such as image segmentation, registration, image deblurring, and shape patterns in digital fabrication. The authors in this volume are members of the WiSH network and their colleagues, and most were involved in the research groups formed at the workshop. Advances in the Mathematical Sciences

Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology
This book constitutes the proceedings of the First IAPR International Conference on Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology, DGMM 2021, which was held during May 24-27, 2021, in Uppsala, Sweden. The conference was created by joining the International Conference on Discrete Geometry for computer Imagery, DGCI, with the International Symposium on Mathematical Morphology, ISMM. The 36 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. In recent years visual devices have proliferated, from the massive high-resolution, high-contrast screens to the tiny ones on mobile phones, with their limited dynamic range and color gamut. The wide variety of screens on which content may be viewed creates a challenge for developers. Adapting visual content for optimized viewing on all devices is called retargeting. This is a new edited volume on shape analysis presenting results in shape modeling and computational geometry from the 2013 Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) symposium held at UCLA's Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM). In-depth discussion of shape modeling techniques is supplemented by full-color illustrations demonstrating the results of workshop-developed shape modeling algorithms. It will be the first volume in Springer's AWM series.

Whip spiders (Amblypygi) can be large and terrifying animals with strong, raptorial pedipalps and long antenniform first legs that can produce a span of as much as 60 cm.
