Osborne Russell's journal covers the period, 1834-1843. Aubrey L. Haines, a prolific writer and editor of Western American history, edited the original manuscript diary in the William Robertson Coe Collection of Western Americana in the Yale University Library. He added a bibliography and extensive notes. The collection consists of his typescript manuscript prepared for publication by the Oregon Historical Society in 1955.
