The Gingerich - Gingrich Families Volume Three

After the Civil War, many families from Pennsylvania went West, many going to Missouri. The railroads had expanded greatly and made the task of moving somewhat easier. Jacob Ellwood Gingrich told of how his grandfather, Lewis K. Gingerich, came by railroad to Missouri in 1879. He was so pleased with the land he saw that he bought 500 acres, then returned to Pennsylvania to bring the family back with him. Several of his children remained in Pennsylvania but the others made the move with him to Callaway County, Missouri. They were active members of the society, building churches, farming, and raising their children. Some of the children moved further West to the Pacific Northwest. The lure of new land was almost irresistible. Old farms gave out, or there were too many children for the farm to be divided equally. Often the land had to be sold and the proceeds divided among the heirs. This all worked to keep the families expanding westward. There are over 100 families mentioned in this book. There are five major families with more than 10-15 entries: Beaven, Curtis, Gingerich/Gingrich, Wallace and Weaver.

After the Civil War (1860-1865), many new areas of the country were opened up for settlement. The Stambaugh family, and various allied families, were among the ones who migrated West between 1865 and 1870. John George Snyder and his wife, Sarah Stambaugh, were among the new settlers who arrived in Callaway County, Missouri. The migrants prospered, and their children married and raised families of their own. Over the passage of time, the ties to family back in Pennsylvania became blurred and often forgotten. Such was the case with Sarah Stambaugh Snyder. The information remembered about her by later generations was confused and often misleading. This book is an attempt to clarify the family ties and to show just where Sarah belonged within the Stambaugh family tree. In addition, a brief outline of her children and their marriages and descendants has also been presented.

The Snyder-Erwin-Miller Families

After the Civil War (1860-1865), many new areas of the country were opened up for settlement. John George Snyder and his wife, Sarah Stambaugh, were among the families that moved West, settling in Callaway County, Missouri, where they prospered. Over the passage of time, the ties to relatives back in Pennsylvania became blurred and often forgotten. Such was the case with the ancestors of John George Snyder. The only things left to work with in trying to extend the Snyder line backwards in time were John George's Bible, given to soldiers during the Civil War, and a handful of family photos. Because of the photographs, contact was made with another Snyder family researcher who was able to help piece together some of the family history. Much is still left to be uncovered. This book strives to give as many available facts as possible in the hope that future researchers will be able to trace the family tree further back. Also, information about John George Snyder's descendants has been outlined, including ties to other Callaway County families.

The surname "Gingerich" has been established as being Swiss in origin. Yost was one of the early settlers of that name in Pennsylvania. We know that in 1747, Yost bought land in what is now Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Anna Huber, had at least eight children. The first volume of "The Gingerich-Gingrich Families" was about Yost and his oldest son, John. This second volume attempts to document the families and extended families of Yost's remaining seven children: Anna, Mary, Jacob, Peter, Christian, Michael, and Barbara. Due to space and time considerations, the extended families of these seven children will usually only extend down to the grandchildren, and sometimes the gre...

The Heikoff Family immigrated from the Vilna area of Lithuana shortly after the beginning of the 20th century. The surname changed from variations of Gaikovsky to Heikoff. In the old country, the family had been involved in commerce and education. They continued this trend in the new country. The Mckeowns were also immigrants, arriving from Ireland around 1910. They also worked hard and encourage higher education for their children. The two families were united when Michael Bruce McKeown married Erica Faith Heikoff.

The Barefoot-Bell families loved taking photographs and sharing them with each other. They didn't often label the pictures because they all knew who each person was. Vivian Barefoot Bell gathered her photos and documents together and stored them in a smallish suitcase given to her by a relative. That way, she could easily carry it from place to place and enjoy sharing the family stories accompanied by photographs.
