Rottumerplaat. Verboden eiland in de Waddenzee
Hoewel Rottumerplaat niet in het beroemde ezelsbruggetje TVTAS voorkomt, is ?Plaat?, zoals het eiland ook wel liefkozend genoemd wordt, voor velen geen onbekend stukje Nederland. In de jaren zeventig van de vorige eeuw zaten Godfried Bomans en Jan Wolkers er een poos; de een tot z?n afgrijzen, de ander kon z?n geluk niet op. En voor veel natuurliefhebbers is Rottumerplaat een verboden vogelparadijs: niemand mag er komen, behalve een handvol, door Staatsbosbeheer aangestelde vogelwachters. Barwolt Ebbinge was een van die vogelwachters. Samen met zijn vrouw Doortje verbleef hij regelmatig, weken achtereen, op Rottumerplaat om wintergasten, doortrekkers en broedvogels te tellen. In 'Rottumerplaat' beschrijft hij zijn bezoeken aan dit natuurreservaat zo nauwgezet en levendig, dat er voor zijn lezers een groot verlangen in vervulling lijkt te gaan: het is alsof je eindelijk zélf voet mag zetten op dit verboden eiland.
