"Till the Clock Stops" from Bell John Joy. Journalist and author ((1871-1934).
Kitty Carstairs follows the everyday life of beautiful Kitty, a young woman living with her aunt in the small town of Dunford. Excerpt: "Through the still summer dusk the night mail for London roared down the long declivity, clashed into a cutting and forth again, screamed, flashed past the deserted little station of Dunford, and thundered triumphantly along the level towards Kitty Carstairs."
John Joy Bell was an early 20th century journalist from Glasgow. After obtaining a college degree in Chemistry Bell wrote for the Glasgow evening Times. He often wrote articles about the working class in Glasgow. While writing for the Times he created the character of McGreegor. The articles were later put into a book and a movie. His accuracy at portraying the working classes has often been praised. Wee MacGreegor Enlists is about a 19 year old boy in Scotland who on his birthday enlists in the Highland Light Infantry. His mother, boss and girlfriend are not in favor of this decision. MacGreegor adjusts to army life...almost. It is the beginning of World War One and Scotland has yet to feel the pain of war. The Wee MacGreegor series are written in a Scottish dialect.
