Gustav Falke wurde 1853 in Lübeck geboren. Nach seiner Lehre als Buchhändler verließ Falke Hamburg 1870 und arbeitete in verschieden Städten in Deutschland. Am Anfang seiner schriftstellerischen Karriere schrieb er lyrische Werke, bevor er sich dem Schreiben von Romanen, Epen und Novellen widmete. Großen Erfolg hatte er aber vor allem mit seinen Kinder- und Jugendbüchern, die er um die Jahrhundertwende herausgab. Der Kampf mit den Seeräubern und andere Geschichten von Gustav Falke ist eine Sammlung von Geschichten rund um das Piratenleben und die Seefahrerei.
