Zi and Ysina are in the kingdom Zi grew up in. Ysina is teaching a few witches while both tell the King about magic. Before they’re about to leave for home, a report comes of a dragon raiding farms and stealing livestock. Zi and Ysina have to go in search of this dragon. Along the way they find bandits. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the European Grid Conference, EGC 2005, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in February 2005. Focusing on all aspects of Grid computing and bringing together participants from research and industry, EGC 2005 was a follow-up of the AcrossGrids Conferences held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2003) and in Nicosia, Cyprus (2004). The 121 revised papers presented - including the contribution of three invited speakers - were carefully reviewed and selected from over 180 submissions for inclusion in the book and address the following topics: applications, architecture and infrastructure, resource brokers and management, grid services and monitoring, performance, security, workflow, data and information management, and scheduling fault-tolerance and mapping.
This volume presents a collection of selected papers written by Prof Chou. The papers are organized into four parts according to the subject of research areas and the language of publishing journals. Part I (in English) and Part III (in Chinese) are papers on field theories, particle physics and nuclear physics, Part II (in English) and Part IV (in Chinese) are papers on statistical physics and condensed matter physics. From the published papers, it illustrates and is clearly evident how Prof Chou was constantly at the frontiers of theoretical physics in various periods and carried out creative research works experimenting with initial ideas and motivations, as well as how he has driven and worked in different key research directions of theoretical physics, all for which he has made significant contributions to various interesting research areas and interdisciplinary fields.
Between November 1950 and the end of fighting in June 1953, China launched six major offensives against UN forces in Korea. The most important of these began on April 22, 1951, and was the largest Communist military operation of the war. The UN forces put up a strong defense, prevented the capture of the South Korean capital of Seoul, and finally pushed the Chinese back above the 38th parallel. After China's defeat in this epic five-week battle, Mao Zedong and the Chinese leadership became willing to conclude the war short of total victory. China's Battle for Korea offers new perspectives on Chinese decision making, planning, and execution; the roles of command, political control, and technology; and the interaction between Beijing, Pyongyang, and Moscow, while providing valuable insight into Chinese military doctrine and the reasons for the UN's military success.
