Glimpses of Tibetan Divination: Past and Present is the first book of its kind, in that it contains articles by a group of eminent scholars who approach the subject matter by investigating it through various facets and salient historical figures. Over the centuries, Tibetans developed many practices of prognostication and adapted many others from neighboring cultures and religions. In this way, Tibetan divination evolved into a vast field of ritual expertise that has been largely neglected in Tibetan Studies. The Tibetan repertoire of divinatory techniques is rich and immensely varied. Lamas, Shamans and Ancestors
This careful study of the co-existence over time of Buddhism and shamanism among the Lhopo (Bhutia) people of Sikkim sheds new light on their supposedly hostile relationship. It examines the working relationships between Buddhist lamas and practitioners of "bon," taking into consideration the sacred history of the land as well as its more recent political and economic transformation. Their interactions are presented in terms of the contexts in which lamas and shamans meet, these being rituals of the sacred land, of the individual and household, and of village and state. Village lamas and shamans are shown to share a conceptual view of reality which is at the base of their amiable coexistence. In contrast to the hostility which, the recent literature suggests, characterizes the lama-shaman relationship, their association reveals that the real confrontation occurs when village Buddhism is challenged by its conventional counterpart.

This volume explores the religious transformation of each nation in modern Asia. When the Asian people, who were not only diverse in culture and history, but also active in performing local traditions and religions, experienced a socio-political change under the wave of Western colonialism, the religious climate was also altered from a transnational perspective. Part One explores the nationals of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan, focusing on the manifestations of Japanese religion, Chinese foreign policy, the British educational system in Hong Kong in relation to Tibetan Buddhism, the Korean women of Catholicism, and the Scottish impact in late nineteenth century Korea. Part Two approaches South Asia through the topics of astrology, the works of a Gujarātī saint, and Himalayan Buddhism. The third part is focused on the conflicts between ‘indigenous religions and colonialism,’ ‘Buddhism and Christianity,’ ‘Islam and imperialism,’ and ‘Hinduism and Christianity’ in Southeast Asia.
Sprache im Musikunterricht
Mit dem vorliegenden Band 5 der Potsdamer Schriftenreihe zur Musikpädagogik wird die bildungspolitische Diskussion um den Stellenwert bewussten Sprachhandelns im Fach aufgegriffen. Ausgehend vom aktuellen Forschungsstand zum Thema „Sprache und Sprechen im Musikunterricht“ werden Forschungsarbeiten vorgestellt, die in diesem Kontext zwischen 2013 und 2016 am Lehrstuhl für Musikpädagogik und Musikdidaktik der Universität Potsdam entstanden sind. Die Beiträge skizzieren sowohl Möglichkeiten zur Umsetzung eines sprachbildenden Fachunterrichts Musik als auch soziale Aspekte sprachlichen Lehrerhandelns und setzen damit neue Impulse im musikpädagogischen Diskurs.Die Veröffentlichung der vorliegenden Forschungsergebnisse wurde durch die Unterstützung des Ministeriums für Arbeit, Soziales, Gesundheit, Frauen und Familie des Landes Brandenburg und der Integrationsbeauftragten sowie durch die Universitätsgesellschaft Potsdam e.
