The Sloppy Copy Slipup

Brian Higman—called Big Hig by his friends—is about to be in big trouble. It's Monday morning, and his teacher Miss Fromme is about to collect homework. . . and Brian didn't do his. There's a big red zero heading his way, and he knows his parents are going to explode when they hear about it. But Big Hig has a good reason for having forgotten his "sloppy copy" first draft, involving his impossible five-year-old brother, a rock band practice at his house, and the mysterious disappearance of his entire life savings right when he needed it most. It's a long, crazy story—but will it be enough to convince a teacher so stern they call her The General to give him another chance? A perfect read for students who never know what to write about in school, The Sloppy Copy Slipup includes Big Hig's writing tips. The World of Programming Languages

The earth, viewed through the window of an airplane, shows a regularity and reptition of features, for example, hills, valleys, rivers, lakes, and forests. Nevertheless, there is great local variation; Vermont does not look like Utah. Similarly, if we rise above the details of a few programming languages, we can discern features that are common to many languages. This is the programming language landscape; the main features include variables, types, control structures, and input/output. Again, there is local variation; Pascal does not look like Basic. This work is a broad and comprehensive discussion of the principal features of the major programming languages. A Study of Concepts The text surveys the landscape of programming languages and its features. Each chapter concentrates on a single language concept. A simple model of the feature, expressed as a mini-language, is presented. This allows us to study an issue in depth and relative isolation. Each chapter concludes with a discussion of the way in which the concept is incorporated into some well-known languages. This permits a reasonably complete coverage of language issues.

A Companion to Latin American Literature and Culture

A COMPANION TO LATIN AMERICAN LITERATURE AND CULTURE “The work contains a wealth of information that must surely provide the basic material for a number of study modules. It should find a place on the library shelves of all institutions where Latin American studies form part of the curriculum.” Reference Review “In short, this is a fascinating panoply that goes from a reevaluation of pre-Columbian America to an intriguing consideration of recent developments in the debate on the modem and postmodern. Summing Up: Recommended.” CHOICE A Companion to Latin American Literature and Culture reflects the changes that have taken place in cultural theory and literary criticism since the latte...
