This remarkably detailed local history covers the Buffalo Valley region in central Pennsylvania. It gives a wealth of historical data including numerous lists of residents, taxpayers, marriages and deaths on a year by year basis. It is also replete with historical text describing the settlement and development of the area, and includes numerous excerpts from early diaries and journals of early residents and travelers. Appendices contain a list of officials at the state and local level; a long list of deaths beginning in 1826; an extensive military roster for 1861-1865; and a listing of Civil War soldiers buried in Union County cemeteries.

Excerpt from Annals of Buffalo Valley, Pennsylvania, 1755-1855 The most celebrated of his sons was Logan, the Mingo chief. By the journal of Mack and Grube, Moravian missionaries, it appears he lived at the mouth of the Chillisquaque creek, August 26, 1753. In 1765 he lived in Raccoon valley, at the foot of the Tuscarora mountain. London, in his collections, says he could speak tol crable English, was a remarkably tall man - over six feet high and well proportioned; of brave, open, and manly countenance, as straight as an arrow, and apparently afraid of no one. George May of Buffalo Valley, Pennsylvania, and His Descendants
George May (1730-1797) of Mifflin and Juniata Co, Pennsylvania married Katherine DeWalt (1742-d.before 1795) the daughter of Michael DeWalt and Maria Barbara Schmidt. He married (2) Mary Miller, the widow of Theobald Miller of Penn's Twp. Eleven children were born to the first marriage. Their son George (1766-1849) married Barbara VanGundy, the daughter of Christian VanGundy, and they lived in Ross Co., Ohio. Another son John (1771-1859) married Maria Margaret Strouse, the daughter of Philip Strouse, and they also lived in Ross Co. Nine generations of descendants are given. Family members lived in Illinois, Oklahoma, Kansas and elsewhere.
