This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 27th ATEE Spring Conference on Social Justice, Media and Technology, ATEE 2021, held in Florence, Italy, during October 28–30, 2021. The 19 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: teaching critical media/digital literacy in multicultural societies; decommodifying teacher (digital) education; and digital technology and equity for inclusive teaching.
Parvalbumin is a small (Mr 12,000), acidic (pI 4-5), Ca2+-binding protein of the EF-hand superfamily, that is very important from several points of view. First of all, this protein takes part in Ca2+ regulation of activity of some types of muscle cells, neurons and some other types of cells. At the same time, the exact physiological role of parvalbumin in some of these cells is not clear enough now. Second, parvalbumin has two high affinity Ca2+ binding sites and for this reason it is frequently used as a simple model Ca2+ binding protein. It is convenient for studies of effects of interactions between two calcium binding sites and is very useful for studies of calcium binding effects on int...
The Special Issue is focused on recent and upcoming advances in the combined application of remote sensing and applied geophysics. Applied geophysics analyzes the distribution of physical properties in the subsurface for a wide range of geological, engineering, and environmental applications at different scales. Seismic, electrical, magnetic, and electromagnetic methods are among the most applied and well-established geophysical techniques. These methods share the advantages of being non-invasive and exploring wide areas of investigation with respect to conventional methods (e.g., drilling). Geophysical surveys are usually carried out deploying or moving the appropriate instrumentation direc...
Written by a preeminent teacher and scientist in the field, Bioinorganic Chemistry provides specialists, students, and general readers with an understanding of the basic chemistry of interactions of inorganic substances with biological systems at the molecular level. The author presents bioinorganic concepts in context and brings a distinct chemistry perspective to the subject. - Provides the streamlined coverage appropriate for one-semester courses or independent study, with all of the necessary but none of the excessive information - Prepares readers to move to the next level of study (whether they continue on in the field or transition to medicine/industry) - Presents concepts through extensive four-color visuals, appealing to a range of learning styles - Promotes critical thinking through open-ended questions throughout the narrative and at the end of each chapter
Metallic nanoparticles display fascinating properties that are quite different from those of individual atoms, surfaces or bulk rmaterials. They are a focus of interest for fundamental science and, because of their huge potential in nanotechnology, they are the subject of intense research effort in a range of disciplines. Applications, or potential applications, are diverse and interdisciplinary. They include, for example, use in biochemistry, in catalysis and as chemical and biological sensors, as systems for nanoelectronics and nanostructured magnetism (e.g. data storage devices), where the drive for further miniaturization provides tremendous technological challenges and, in medicine, the...
For those wanting to become rapidly acquainted with specific areas of NMR, this title provides unrivalled scope of coverage.
Uses the history of Trieste and the Italo-Yugoslav border to examine how representations of difference have affected the politics of sovereignty during the twentieth century.
