Network analysis is growing in popularity as an empirical method in political science. As with any novel method, early applications can reveal a range of promises and pitfalls. This article examines the use of dynamic network analysis in Horne and Bestvateŕs article, ́Assessing the Effects of Changes in British Counterterrorism Policy on Radical Islamist Networks in the UK, 1999́2008.́ As a computational form of network analysis, special attention is given to definitions and concepts in network analysis, the appropriate uses and limitations of dynamic network analysis, the process of constructing and analyzing computational networks, lessons learned from a multi-year research project, and the method́s unique promise as a tool for counterterrorism policy evaluation.

Terrorizing Ourselves

"The authors and outlooks collected in this volume represent the clearest, most realistic, most penetrating thought about America's response to terrorist threats. The wider the audience is for views like these, the closer the country will come to an effective, sustainable policy for protecting its people and defending its values.---JAMES FALLOWS National Correspondent, Atlantic Monthly" --

Struggle for Alliance

This book provides a comprehensive study of the complex impacts of the war in Ukraine on Russo-Iranian relations, and the resulting consequences for the international relations of the Middle East. In contrast to dominant academic approaches, which view Russo-Iranian relations through the lens of an anti-hegemonic agenda and confrontation with the US-led international order, this study presents an alternative angle stating that the war in Ukraine has sped up Moscow and Tehran's interdependency, primarily because of the protective benefits that it brings to both states. The book analyzes various debates about the impact of the war on Russo-Iranian relations. From the perspective of the emergin...

Foxe's 'Book of Martyrs' and Early Modern Print Culture

This book was first published in 2006. Second only to the Bible and Book of Common Prayer, John Foxe's Acts and Monuments, known as the Book of Martyrs, was the most influential book published in England during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The most complex and best-illustrated English book of its time, it recounted in detail the experiences of hundreds of people who were burned alive for their religious beliefs. John N. King offers the most comprehensive investigation yet of the compilation, printing, publication, illustration, and reception of the Book of Martyrs. He charts its reception across different editions by learned and unlearned, sympathetic and antagonistic readers. The many illustrations included here introduce readers to the visual features of early printed books and general printing practices both in England and continental Europe, and enhance this important contribution to early modern literary studies, cultural and religious history, and the history of the Book.
