z/VM and Linux on IBM System z: The Virtualization Cookbook for SLES9
This IBM IBM Redbooks publication describes how to setup your own Linux virtual servers on IBM zSeries and System z9 under z/VM . It adopts a cookbook format that provides a clearly documented set of procedures for installing and configuring z/VM in an LPAR and then installing and customizing Linux. You need a zSeries logical partition (LPAR) with associated resources, z/VM 5.2 media, and a Linux distribution. This book is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9) for zSeries and we address both 31-bit and 64-bit distributions. In addition, there are a few associated REXX EXECs and Linux scripts to help speed up the process. These tools are not IBM products nor formally supported. However, they are informally supported. They are available on the Web. In this book, we assume that you have a general familiarity with zSeries technology and terminology. We do not assume an in-depth understanding of z/VM and Linux. This book is written for those who want to get a quick start with z/VM and Linux on the mainframe.
Distant Kinship
This study of Joseph Conrad's influential work "Heart of Darkness" presents for the first time the German-language reception of this reference text in the debate on postcolonialism. The spectrum ranges from Conrad's contemporaries (like Kafka) to many canonical authors of the 20th century (including Thomas Mann, Ernst Jünger, Christa Wolf) to the most recent names in literature (i.e. Christian Kracht und Lukas Bärfuss). Beyond the readings of their works, the study contributes to the study of cultural transfers as well as to Conrad philology, and it expands the theory of intertextuality with parameters that capture the complex factor of power in postcolonial relations.
Adorno's Critique of Political Economy
To this day, there persists a widespread assumption that Adorno’s references to Marx – and especially to Marx’s critique of political economy – represent a relic from an early and short-lived stage of Adorno’s theoretical development. On the basis of relevant and largely unpublished textual sources, this book refutes this thesis while showing that the centre of Adorno’s critical theory of society is occupied by a critique not only of political economy, but of economy in general.
Communicative Legitimacy
This book analyses the legitimacy deficits in democratic welfare work using Habermas’ theories of communicative action, law and morality. Based on their underlying intersubjective perspectives, legitimacy problems can be identified and corrected, e.g. lack of confidence, dignity, respect, broken expectations, ignorance or mistrust of its administration. In modern societies with their many different contexts, a mutual understanding of facts, norms and expressions has become even more important in order to act constructively in daily life. These needs have increased the tension between the individual and the system, which becomes especially evident when globalised and individualised service users ask for welfare services.
