Model-Based Control:

Model-Based Control will be a collection of state-of-the-art contributions in the field of modelling, identification, robust control and optimization of dynamical systems, with particular attention to the application domains of motion control systems (high-accuracy positioning systems) and large scale industrial process control systems. The book will be directed to academic and industrial people involved in research in systems and control, industrial process control and mechatronics.

At publication, The Control Handbook immediately became the definitive resource that engineers working with modern control systems required. Among its many accolades, that first edition was cited by the AAP as the Best Engineering Handbook of 1996. Now, 15 years later, William Levine has once again compiled the most comprehensive and authoritative resource on control engineering. He has fully reorganized the text to reflect the technical advances achieved since the last edition and has expanded its contents to include the multidisciplinary perspective that is making control engineering a critical component in so many fields. Now expanded from one to three volumes, The Control Handbook, Secon...

Coordination Control of Distributed Systems

This book describes how control of distributed systems can be advanced by an integration of control, communication, and computation. The global control objectives are met by judicious combinations of local and nonlocal observations taking advantage of various forms of communication exchanges between distributed controllers. Control architectures are considered according to increasing degrees of cooperation of local controllers: fully distributed or decentralized control, control with communication between controllers, coordination control, and multilevel control. The book covers also topics bridging computer science, communication, and control, like communication for control of networks, ave...

L2 - Gain and Passivity Techniques in Nonlinear Control

With respect to the first edition as Volume 218 in the Lecture Notes in Con trol and Information Sciences series the basic idea of the second edition has remained the same: to provide a compact presentation of some basic ideas in the classical theory of input-output and closed-loop stability, together with a choice of contributions to the recent theory of nonlinear robust and 1foo control and passivity-based control. Nevertheless, some parts of the book have been thoroughly revised and/or expanded, in order to have a more balanced presen tation of the theory and to include some of the new developments which have been taken place since the appearance of the first edition. I soon realized, how...

Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems

The presence of uncertainty in a system description has always been a critical issue in control. The main objective of Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems, with Applications (Second Edition) is to introduce the reader to the fundamentals of probabilistic methods in the analysis and design of systems subject to deterministic and stochastic uncertainty. The approach propounded by this text guarantees a reduction in the computational complexity of classical control algorithms and in the conservativeness of standard robust control techniques. The second edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent research and new applications with chapters on statistical...

Positive Trigonometric Polynomials and Signal Processing Applications

  • Publisher: Springer

This book gathers the main recent results on positive trigonometric polynomials within a unitary framework. The book has two parts: theory and applications. The theory of sum-of-squares trigonometric polynomials is presented unitarily based on the concept of Gram matrix (extended to Gram pair or Gram set). The applications part is organized as a collection of related problems that use systematically the theoretical results.

Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics

The present book includes a set of selected papers from the fourth “International Conference on Informatics in Control Automation and Robotics” (ICINCO 2007), held at the University of Angers, France, from 9 to 12 May 2007. The conference was organized in three simultaneous tracks: “Intelligent Control Systems and Optimization”, “Robotics and Automation” and “Systems Modeling, Signal Processing and Control”. The book is based on the same structure. ICINCO 2007 received 435 paper submissions, from more than 50 different countries in all continents. From these, after a blind review process, only 52 where accepted as full papers, of which 22 were selected for inclusion in this b...

Model-Based Control Engineering

Progress in industrialization and automation engineering is creating many new opportunities in the autonomous systems industry. With the uncertain and highly nonlinear dynamics of the real world where these new technologies will be deployed, a reliable control strategy is necessary. This book provides a high-level discussion on model-based control engineering and its various applications.

Modeling and Identification of Linear Parameter-Varying Systems

Through the past 20 years, the framework of Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) systems has become a promising system theoretical approach to h- dle the controlof mildly nonlinear and especially position dependent systems which are common in mechatronic applications and in the process ind- try. The birth of this system class was initiated by the need of engineers to achieve better performance for nonlinear and time-varying dynamics, c- mon in many industrial applications, than what the classical framework of Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) control can provide. However, it was also a p- mary goal to preserve simplicity and “re-use” the powerful LTI results by extending them to the LPV case. The pr...

Design of Distributed and Robust Optimization Algorithms. A Systems Theoretic Approach

Optimization algorithms are the backbone of many modern technologies. In this thesis, we address the analysis and design of optimization algorithms from a systems theoretic viewpoint. By properly recasting the algorithm design as a controller synthesis problem, we derive methods that enable a systematic design of tailored optimization algorithms. We consider two specific classes of optimization algorithms: (i) distributed, and (ii) robust optimization algorithms. Concerning (i), we utilize ideas from geometric control in an innovative fashion to derive a novel methodology that enables the design of distributed optimization algorithms under minimal assumptions on the graph topology and the structure of the optimization problem. Concerning (ii), we employ robust control techniques to establish a framework for the analysis of existing algorithms as well as the design of novel robust optimization algorithms with specified guarantees.
