The continuing adventure of little rich girl Yaya and her street urchin friend Tuduo as they cross war-torn Shanghai in the wake of the Japanese invasion of 1937 in hopes of finding Yaya's parents. This nine-volume series chronicles their long journey fraught with perils. The children meet all sorts of people, both friendly and wicked, as they travel toward Hong Kong. Yaya and Tuduo learn many growing lessons along the way, not the least of which is to judge a person on their character, not their social or financial status. The gloom of war, its absurd tragedy, gives way to the incredible capacity of youth to overwhelm grim reality.

Weregirl

(New adult paranormal fantasy with witches, vampires werewolves) Reluctant Princess “Syd,” I say. “If I were to step down as heir, would there be a place for me here?” She reaches out and takes my hand again. “Without question,” she says. “Any time, come as you are, you betcha. And hell no. Yes, because I miss you and love you and it’s not the same without you. The kids adore you, life is better when you’re here.” She looks away from me, up at the star-filled sky. Her sorrow is a living thing between us, my wolf snuffling at it and whining. “And no, because you are so much more than a servant to anyone. And if you came back, I’d worry it was for the wrong reasons.” ...

A Left-wing populist insurgency exploded across the West in the wake of the Great Financial Crisis After decades of retreat, the last decade saw a left resurgence from the US to Western Europe and the Mediterranean. This revival of anti-establishment left-wing candidates was not only left but also populist. Though in most cases these movements ran out of steam before effectively being in a position wield state power, many of the parties and figures associated with this wave of left populism have entered government and others are still contesting high office. Providing a blow-by-blow history of the rise and defeat of left electoral movements in the West, Boriello and Jaeger guide us through the conditions that shaped this wave of insurgencies. These include extreme and rising inequality, the collapse of civic life, and a lack of trust in traditional institutions. In this context, Boriello and Jaeger argue that some or another form of populism was all but inevitable. And, despite defeats, left offensives of present and future will be populist in nature. This is because the conditions that shaped the first left populist wave are still very much with us.

Learning Disabilities and Brain Function

Reading this volume, chapter by chapter, I had a feeling of exuberance and exhiliration. lt is both a privilege and achaIlengc 10 write a foreword for this second edition of Learning Disahilities and Brain Function. The scope and quality of the scientific and clinical insights expressed are unusual. It is difficult to do justice 10 the book within the constraints of a foreword. I can only reftect its significance to instructors, scientists. and clinicians in education, psychology, psychiatry. pediatrics. speech pa thology and neurology. In the early chapters are discussions of brain function as it relates to learning and learning disabilities, with many implications for better undcr standing...
