Binocular vision is achieved by five neurovisual systems originating in the retina but varying in their destination within the brain. Cette pratique, malgré la panoplie d'outils dont disposent les neuropsychologues, est complexe, car de nombreuses variables peuvent influencer les résultats des tests et rendre leur interprétation difficile : âge, sexe, niveau d'études, état psycho-affectif, régime alimentaire, prise de médicaments, patrimoine génétique, conditions de passation des tests.
