Martin Pauw was born in 1940 at Madzimoyo Mission, Eastern Zambia, where both his grandparents and parents had served as missionaries. After completing his theological studies at the University of Stellenbosch, he was ordained in Malawi in the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in 1965. Like his great grandfather, grandfather and father, he became a “missionary” – the fourth generation! He served as youth pastor and lecturer at the CCAP Theological College at Nkhoma until 1973. Women, Presbyterianism and Patriarchy
This is the first book by a Malawian woman theologian. First released in 1997 it won an honorable mention in the Noma Award for Publishing in Africa in 1998 and is now updated here with a new introduction by the author. The study traces the struggles and contribution of Chewa women to the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian. Amongst the topics are female mediumships in traditional religion, post-missionary developments in Chigwirizano, womens attempts to achieve some public manifestation of their personal relatioship to God in open ministry, and the current women's organisation in Nkhoma Synod. Dr. Isabel Apawo Phiri is in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Malawi.

Christianity in Eurafrica is an impressive book, meticulously researched and well written by a professional scholar. The first chapter includes some valuable historiographical guidelines for writing and understanding the History of the Church. The Dutch Reformed Women's Missionary Movement from the Cape and the Mt Holyoke Connection
This book reinterprets the history of South African Dutch Reformed missions as a women's movement. It traces American women missionaries from Mt. Holyoke College who went to southern Africa in the late 1800s to teach Dutch Reformed girls. Dutch Reformed women then formed a missionary network to send the educated women throughout southern Africa, and into Malawi and Zimbabwe. Missionary women modeled a combination of education and piety that inspired African church women's leadership and enabled Reformed churches to spread throughout the region. Not only does the book show how American women introduced a distinctive missionary piety into Reformed missions, but it also places women at the center of southern African mission history.
Identity by Dissociation
Though Achewa Providence Industrial Mission (APIM) is a church that is confined to the Chewa people, one of John Chilembwe's students, Peter Kalemba, a Chewa, was instrumental in the founding of PIM, and later, the organization of APIM in Mangoni. Both churches trace their heritage back to Chilembwe, a Baptist. APIM was instrumental in the beginning of churches in Lilongwe that form the backbone of BACOMA. Since APIM has not spread out to include people of other ethnic groups, Christianization by means of the people group movement is by no means the perfect answer to the evangelization of a tribe.

"The Baptist convention of Malawi (BACOMA) grew out of the Baptist Mission in Malawi's work that began almost 50 years ago as a result of plans by the Central African (Southern Baptist Convention) Mission to expand their works from Zimbabwe to Malawi. Although BACOMA owes much of their tradition to the white Southern Baptists of the US, they are typically a Malawian expression of the Church.
