A play was staged, justifying the murder and glorifying the murderer. Now there is a group that wishes to construct a temple of the murderer. At the subtle level, a compaign is going on distorting the facts and propagating lies against the values Bapu stood for. All this is happening, because they are still afraid of Gandhi’s presence in the psyche of India. That is why it is very relevant to underline the facts again; hence, the book.

These public intellectuals harbored vernacular dreams of freedom and Hindi-Hindu nationhood through their vantage points of caste, Ayurveda, travel, and communism. Opening up a vast and under-explored Hindi archive, this book presents a dynamic spectacle of a plural Hindi-Hindu universe of facets that coexisted, challenged each other, and comprised an idea of Hinduness far more inclusive than anything conceivable in the present moment.
