Heart of Stone

A dark mafia romance . . . When Adella Valentino agrees to marry Leo Cifarelli, heir to the Cifarelli Syndicate, she gives up hope of ever experiencing a loving relationship. Leo is cunning, aloof and entirely lethal, and has treated her like a burden her whole life. But when the death of a rival forces the couple into hiding, Leo’s behaviour suddenly changes; he reveals a new side of himself – one that wants to claim her. As they are trapped in each other’s presence, Leo’s beguiling grin and alluring darkness invite Adella deeper, daring her to submerge herself in the darkest corners of him and swim in a sea of sins with him. But Adella is hesitant. She worries that it might all be a game to Leo – one she is about to lose. When she finally succumbs to temptation, one thing becomes crystal clear: Leo is a dangerous man who must never be underestimated. Warning: This book contains sexually explicit scenes, a possessive anti-hero and profanity. It is intended for mature audiences. More content warnings can be found inside the book. Heart of Stone is the first book of the Memento Mori series. Book two has not been published yet.

Biodeterioration of Stone Surfaces

This is a timely volume in view of the considerable interest currently shown in the preservation of our cultural heritage, and the extensive and growing literature on the subject. Unfortunately, the latter is to be found in a wide variety of published sources, some aimed at a very specific readership and therefore not all that accessible to those who need this resource. The present volume draws together a spectrum of biodeterioration work from across the world to provide an overview of the materials examined and the methodologies employed to elucidate the nature of the problems, as well as an extensive and current bibliographical resource on lichen biodeterioration. Biodeterioration of histo...

Violet Paget spoke four languages, began her career as a journalist at the age of 13, suffered from maladies that were probably psychosomatic, and may have secretly been a lesbian. She was, in other words, the perfect Victorian lady writer of gothic horror, a mystery and a scandal in her own right. Though not well remembered today, Paget's work-often likened to the works of Henry James (whom she admired, and even dedicated a novel to)-is worth seeking out for lovers of the genre. Her ghost stories are, by turns, hauntingly ambiguous tales about love conflated with mental illness, femme fatales, confused sexuality, and women sacrificed on the altar of marriage. This 1890 collection, considered by some her finest, includes the tales: [ "Amour: Dure: Passages from the Diary of Spiridion Trepka" [ "Oke of Okehurst" [ "A Wicked Voice" "Vernon Lee" was the pseudonym of British writer VIOLET PAGET (1865-1935), who wrote numerous novels, essays, travelogues, and works of literary criticism.

Standing Upright Here

The events described in this book span most of the period, from the end of the Second World War until close to the end of the century, when New Zealand began to think for itself, and stand on its own feet as an independent nation. It follows an important thread in the development of New Zealand foreign policy, in the contexts of intergovernmental negotiation and, as it must in a democracy such as ours, the expression of the popular will. The story begins with post-War investigations of possible peaceful uses of nuclear technology in New Zealand, and proceeds through many of the issues that have galvanised society - US and British nuclear tests in the Pacific, confrontations with France, the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone, nuclear-powered ship - visits and ANZUS, the Nuclear Free legislation.
