The Technological and Economic Future of Nuclear Power
This open access book discusses the eroding economics of nuclear power for electricity generation as well as technical, legal, and political acceptance issues. The use of nuclear power for electricity generation is still a heavily disputed issue. Aside from technical risks, safety issues, and the unsolved problem of nuclear waste disposal, the economic performance is currently a major barrier. In recent years, the costs have skyrocketed especially in the European countries and North America. At the same time, the costs of alternatives such as photovoltaics and wind power have significantly decreased.
Digitisation and Low-Carbon Energy Transitions
The world is digitising as the need for low-carbon transitions gains urgency. Decarbonising energy requires the digital process control of energy production, transmission and end use. Diversified electrification across sectors requires real-time digital coordination of distributed energy production, At the same time, digitisation is accompanied by significant increases in energy demand, partly compensated through energy efficiency gains. Europa am Scheideweg
Es ist nicht übertrieben zu behaupten, dass Europa am Scheideweg steht und dass auf vielen Gebieten weitreichende integrationspolitische Weichenstellungen erforderlich sind, die deutlich über die vorwiegend krisenbekämpfenden Maßnahmen der vergangenen Jahre hinausgehen. Im Mittelpunkt dieses Tagungsbandes steht die Analyse so grundlegender Fragen wie der institutionellen Konvergenz der Mitgliedstaaten der Euro-Währungsunion sowie der Perspektiven des europäischen Integrationsprozesses. Dazu kommen wirtschafts- und budgetpolitische Themen, die sowohl kurz- als auch langfristige Aspekte beinhalten und Konsolidierungs- und Wachstumsaspekte in den Fokus nehmen. Die Perspektiven und die Konvergenz der Steuerpolitik in Europa sowie die Energiepolitik im Zuge der Energiewende werden ebenso thematisiert wie die Managerhaftung im Rahmen von Corporate Governance-Regeln. Die politische Ökonomie der Energiewende
Tobias Haas beschäftigt sich mit der umkämpften Entwicklung hin zu einem regenerativen Stromsystem bzw. dem Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien in der EU mit Schwerpunkt auf Deutschland und Spanien seit den 2000er Jahren. Aus einer politökonomischen Perspektive analysiert er die divergierenden energiepolitischen Entwicklungspfade beider Länder, in denen zunächst ein rasanter Zubau an erneuerbaren Energien im Strombereich stattgefunden hatte. Die größere Kontinuität der Energiewende in Deutschland erklärt der Autor mit dem Einfluss der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise in Verbindung mit Dynamiken ungleicher Entwicklung in der EU sowie der Beschaffenheit der Zivilgesellschaften und der staatlichen Institutionengefüge. Er argumentiert, dass in allen drei Fällen (EU, Deutschland, Spanien) die Dynamiken des Wandels ausgebremst wurden und viel zu kurz greifen, um einen raschen Umstieg auf eine nachhaltige Energieversorgung zu gewährleisten.

Das Jahrbuch ORDO ist seit über 50 Jahren ein Zentralort der wissenschaftlichen und politischen Diskussion aus dem Konzept der Marktwirtschaft und des Wettbewerbs heraus. Durch dieses Jahrbuch wurde der Begriff Ordoliberalismus zum festen Begriff. Er steht für ein Grundkonzept, das erfolgreiche wirtschaftliche Entwicklung, eine freiheitliche Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft ohne Dominanz von Staatseingriffen und das Recht auf persönliche Verantwortung in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft in einem unauflöslichen Zusammenhang sieht.
