The book is the final report of the researches, discussions, conversations around and about the Project PRIN Employability & Competences which took place on March 9th-‐11th, 2017 within an International Conference at the University of Florence. It was the final event of the project PRIN2012LATR9N which aims were: «to design innovative programs for higher education, to promote personalized and learner-centered teaching and learning, to build on job competencies, to value talents to create new work opportunities, to support young adults during their employment emergency, as a response to socio economic crisis and as a citizenship action». The research activities concerned the main phases of the students’ academic life: career guidance upon entry, personalized teaching, career calling, professional vocation, profession building activities such as internships and work related experiences, and lastly job placement.
This collection of essays focuses on the important, but under-discussed, role of higher education institutions in both delivering academic programmes that provide relevant cognitive and professional skills and competences to future adult educators, and in being more actively involved in the current dialogue with regard to the professionalization paths of adult educators and trainers. The topics discussed here vary from the initial education and training of adult educators in higher education environments, to the role of universities as validating agencies of existing psycho-pedagogical competences for in-service adult educators. Particular attention is also drawn to the ways in which adult education policies and initial education and training opportunities for prospective adult educators affect the role of higher education institutions in terms of academic orientation and programme delivery.

This study sheds new light on childhood education, and reveals Giuseppina Pizzigoni as a contemporary educator of Maria Montessori. While the former is almost unknown and the latter enjoys worldwide fame, both were protagonists of the profound changes in the Italian school system in the 20th century. Their lives developed in parallel, and both great women loved school, respected children, and believed in the strength of education. Pizzigoni’s disciple Sara Bertuzzi later picked up the baton, and continued the impulse of innovation, freedom, inclusion and sustainability, faithful to the features and fundaments of Pizzigoni’s pedagogy and methodology. She became the only expert in the field of the new school, and her diaries highlight the theory and practice of the experimental method in both kindergarten and preschool.
This book examines the ways in which well-being affects educational outcomes. Using an ecological approach, the book defines what we mean by well-being and resilience in education and how this relates to policy and children and young people’s rights.
