This text looks at Robert Capa's colour photography, a little-known but important aspect of the great photographer's work, and includes many never-before-published images. Capa regularly used colour film from the 1940s until his death in 1954. Some of these photographs were published in magazines of the day, but the majority have never been printed, seen, or even studied. "Capa in Color" presents this work an integral part of his post-war career and fundamental in remaining relevant to magazines.

Soul Power

Soul Power is a cultural history of those whom Cynthia A. Young calls “U.S. Third World Leftists,” activists of color who appropriated theories and strategies from Third World anticolonial struggles in their fight for social and economic justice in the United States during the “long 1960s.” Nearly thirty countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America declared formal independence in the 1960s alone. Arguing that the significance of this wave of decolonization to U.S. activists has been vastly underestimated, Young describes how literature, films, ideologies, and political movements that originated in the Third World were absorbed by U.S. activists of color. She shows how these transnati...

For a decade and a half, since she first appeared in the Birmingham Centre’s collective volume The Empire Strikes Back, Hazel Carby has been on the frontline of the debate over multicultural education in Britain and the US. This book brings together her most important and influential essays, ranging over such topics as the necessity for racially diverse school curricula, the construction of literary canons, Zora Neale Hurston’s portraits of “the Folk,” C.L.R. James and Trinidadian nationalism and black women blues artists, and the necessity for racially diverse school curricula. Carby’s analyses of diverse aspects of contemporary culture are invariably sharp and provocative, her political insights shrewd and often against the grain. A powerful intervention, Culture in Babylon will become a standard reference point in future debates over race, ethnicity and gender.

A Stream of Life

A story of an emotional development of a woman, who through the birth of her handicapped child comes into a phase of her life that is a major challenge, yet at the same time an enrichment. She discovers that „sick“ children on their path to recovery possess a vitality that can also motivate each one of us in our behavior towards another and in taking a more creative life philosophy. Her situation allows her to realize that her idealized perceptions of interpersonal relationships and the expectations of fellow men and women have no position in the real world and that she must reconsider their applicability. Author’s daughter Cindy Gorski gives inside into her childhood in book „My soul never gives up!“ published in 2013. ISBN: 978-3-8423-8621-1
