A new instrument was designed for the microspectrophotometric measurement of absorbing substances in individual biological cells. The objective was to produce an instrument capable of the highest possible precision of measure. It was demonstrated that a coefficient of variation of less than 1% is possible. The instrument consists of a mechanically rigid optical system and a unique detection and digital conversion system. The applicability of the instrument for the two-wavelength system of measurement is described in detail. (Author).
