Principles of Genetic Toxicology

The field of genetic toxicology has gone through remarkable development in the seven years since the appearance of the first edition of Principles of Genetic Toxicology. One branch of toxicology research, chemical mutagenesis, has been elucidated and expanded as a result of increased effort, testing, and the sharing of data. This expansion has occurred not only in the industrialized countries, but also in countries that are comparatively less advanced in scientific implementation. These developing countries have taken advan tage of the basic practical methods that were so well described in the first edition of this work. It is significant to note how many centers have been established throug...

Genetic disease contributes to a major portion of our health care costs. While most of the human genetic burden is transmitted from generation to generation, environmental chemicals capable of reacting with germ cell DNA could produce new mutations, resulting in an even greater genetic liability for the next generation. The potential impact of environmental mutagens on the health and viability of other living things is important to consider as well. Methods for Genetic Risk Assessment features contributions from international experts to provide a comprehensive review of the current status of genetic risk assessment. You'll learn about various methods and strategies for when and how to conduct genetic risk assessments on human populations. You will also learn about the potential effects of environmental genotoxins on nonhuman organisms. Topics considered include:

D-Day to Carpiquet

D-Day to Carpiquet

The brutal battlefields of Europe during World War II were the testing ground for the young men of the 1st Battalion of the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment. On June 6, 1944, the soldiers landed on the coast of France as part of the first wave of the D-Day invasion. After securing the eastern flank of the Canadian landing along Juno Beach, the Regiment was in constant contact with the enemy over the next thirty days, suffering a steady stream of casualties. This led to a ferocious battle in the French village of Carpiquet. For five days, the Regiment endured a living hell and suffered nearly 300 casualties. By the end of it, the North Shore Regiment had effectively died. For the first time, the comprehensive tale of this storied Regiment is finally told. D-Day to Carpiquet is volume 9 in the New Brunswick Military Heritage Series.
